What data Memofluent collects, why, and how to control it. Short and fog-free.
Effective: 2026-09-19
1. Who runs this site
Memofluent.com is a personal project; the data operator is D. Niser. Contact: contact@memofluent.com.
2. What we collect
- Account — email and password (the password is stored only as a hash).
- Learning data — decks, cards, progress, courses, settings.
- Session — cookie
memo_session(a technical session id, 90 days) andmf_lang(your chosen language). - Waitlist email — if you left an address in the pricing block.
- Technical logs — standard server records and client errors.
We do not collect payment data, advertising identifiers, or browser fingerprints. There are no third-party ads or trackers.
3. Cookies
Only essential ones: memo_session (login) and mf_lang (language). No analytics or advertising cookies.
4. Email
Transactional emails (verification, password reset) are sent over SMTP. No marketing emails; the only waitlist email is a one-time pricing notice.
5. Usage analytics
To improve the product we log in-service actions of signed-in users (screens opened, study sessions, features used) — pseudonymised by account id, without your name, email or precise location. We keep the events for long-term trends, but we remove the pseudonymous link (account id) from older events after about 13 months, so they become anonymous (we anonymise rather than delete). This is first-party functional data on our own service (legitimate interest) and adds no new tracking cookies. You can switch it off anytime in your profile. Third-party analytics (Yandex Metrica) load only with your cookie consent and can be declined in the banner.
6. Storage and sharing
Data is stored on a server in the EU. We do not sell your data and do not share it with third parties for their own purposes. The exception is what the service cannot work without: emails go through our mail server, and push notifications in the app are delivered by Expo, Apple and Google, which receive only the device token and the notification text (see section 9).
7. Data sources & attribution
Example sentences in flashcards come from the Tatoeba project, licensed CC BY 2.0 FR. Country-level geolocation uses the IP-to-Country Lite database by DB-IP (CC BY 4.0); your IP is used only to derive the country and is not stored.
8. Your rights
Request an export or deletion of your data and account — contact@memofluent.com.
9. Mobile app (iOS / Android)
The Memofluent mobile app uses the same account and backend as the website, so everything above applies. App-specific notes:
- Camera & photos — accessed only when you choose to build cards from a picture (e.g. a textbook page). The image you pick becomes your own card content; we do not scan your photo library.
- Study reminders — optional daily notifications are scheduled by the device itself; their schedule and texts are not sent to our servers.
- Notifications from us — the app can receive notifications from our server. For this it sends us a device token issued by Apple or Google; the token is tied to your account and is opaque — nothing about you can be read from it. We separate two kinds: account-critical (errors affecting your data, limits, security) and news and offers — the latter are sent only with your explicit consent. Both can be turned off in the app: Profile → Notifications. Delivery is handled by Expo (USA), Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, which receive only the token and the notification text.
- Offline-first — decks and progress are cached on your device so you can study without a connection; changes sync when you are back online.
- Delete your account — you can permanently delete your account and data right inside the app (Profile → Delete account).
10. Changes
For material changes we update the effective date at the top of this page.
